Etude in Ab
This is my arrangement of Clair Omar Musser's Etude in Ab (Op. 6 #2) for cello and marimba. The work is originally scored for marimba and piano. By using the cello alone as an accompaniment instrument, it is a unique take on a traditional sound.
Loving Mad Tom
Loving Mad Tom
Loving Mad Tom is renowned marimba composer Andrew Thomas's only concerto for marimba and orchestra. We recorded it in Katowice, Poland in 2006 with The Radio Symphony Orchestra of Katowice. It is perhaps one of the most challenging concerto works written for the marimba requiring the performer to exemplify "madness" throughout the entire piece. Click on the player below to hear an excerpt of the 1st and 2nd movement.

Rain
Rain
Rain
Rain is a programmatic work written for 5 marimbas and beat. The beat was constructed using a water sample from traditional African music. The marimba parts then bounce on top of it and create additions to the already churning water. Rain is a work with a lot of energy and vibrancy. However, it also has a side of depth and probing. It is a celebration of embracing chaos and randomness and how each individual is able to find their own order within it. Rain falls in a seemingly random state, but if you stare at it when it strikes the ground, the mind will naturally begin to create order out of the shapes. Each individual's order is completely different and unique to who they are. In this sense, Rain is a celebration of individuality and the creative process.
Away
Away
Away
Away is a work for marimba and female choir. It was written for Christel Houston and the Christian Heritage School in Steamboat Springs, CO. It is an exciting work about letting go in order to pursue greatness. The chorus of the song uses only 2 notes.
Heroes and Villains
Heroes and Villains
Heroes and Villains
Heroes and Villains is a sort of double concerto for piano and percussion. I arranged it for the Las Vegas Youth Orchestra and concert pianist Alpin Hong. It uses many popular video game themes in a battle representing the struggle of good vs evil. Good wins... Themes used include Halo, Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy VII, Chrono Trigger, Castlevania, Contra, and many more!
Marimba Singular
Marimba Singular
Marimba Singular
Marimba Singular was composed by renowned marimba/percussion composer Daniel Levitan and co produced by Simon Boyar. To create the sound Dan wanted we uses 42 different condenser microphones, one for every 2 marimba bars. The allowed us to mix in the multi terraced style of the piece. The work is extremely challenging and requires the performer to control multiple areas of the instrument with complete independence.
Figment V
Figment V
Figment V
Figment V is the first and only marimba solo by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Elliot Carter. He wrote it as part of his 100th year birthday celebration. Carter's contributions to music are tremendous. It was truly a great honor to be asked to give the world premiere of this piece as well as the premiere recording (Bridge Records).
Bag of Bars
Bag of Bars
Bag of Bars
Bag of Bars is an aggressive work written for 5 Marimbas, Vibes, Xylophone, Piano, and Timpani. It was composed for NYUME and premiered in May 2011. The work is meant to emulate the sound of stray, broken and unwanted marimba bars put in a bag or pillowcase and smashed against a wall...preferably brick.
The Void
The Void
The Void
The Void is a work by Simon Boyar written for NYUME. Scored for 4 Marimbas, Vibes, Xylophone, Bells, and Drumset, It is called The Void simply because the composer could not originally come up with a name. However, regardless of it's chaotic inception the work is actually quite clear. It uses basic modes and rhythms to create a lush and driving work.
The Rollover
The Rollover
The Rollover
The Rollover is another work by Daniel Levitan on the same album as "Marimba Singular." It is a short and sweet work in the traditional Levitan style written for percussionist Jim Preiss.
Hide and Seek
Hide and Seek
Hide and Seek
This is my Marimba Quartet arrangement of "Hide and Seek" by composer Imogen Heap. I arranged this fantastic work for NYUME in Dec 2011. As with most of my arrangements, the work strives to maintain the character and quality of the original while adding new and completely original ideas with the intention of highlighting and enhancing the fluency of the original work.
Springs
