Simon has taught hundreds of students. His contributions to education, percussion, and music span across the globe. He has served as the former director of The Juilliard Pre-College Percussion Department and he currently serves as a member of the NYU Steinhardt percussion faculty where he works closely with students who are currently pursuing their B.M, MM, or PHD's in music. In addition to private lessons, Simon runs the NYU Contemporary Marimba Ensemble (NYUME). This ensemble is dedicated to teaching Simon's special and particular brand of technique. NYUME is also dedicated to exploring the most extreme boundaries of the standard repertoire as well. The ensemble performs fluently both with and without a conductor in order to facilitate the highest possible standards of listening and responding.Simon is also a member of The Vic Firth Education team and a Yamaha Performing Artist. He has given master classes all over the world and has participated in a number of round table discussions and lectures at schools, festivals, and organizations such as SUNY Fredonia, The Conductor's Institute at Bard College, Kutztown University, The Juilliard School, New Jersey City University, Kean University, The NYU Broadway Festival, The Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps, New York Youth Musicians, PASIC, and dozens of high schools and middle schools across the country.Simon is available for educational outreach and master classes . He is an experienced conductor and is available to work with large ensembles as well. In a residency setting, Simon's approach is not only to play and teach but to write special world premiere compositions for the students he is working with. This facilitates a creative environment where the students are able to perform their own unique concert alongside an experienced, inspiring, and forward thinking artist. Students take ownership of the process, actively participate, and are able to walk away having taken part in something very special and unique to them. Most recently, Simon has used this approach with The Strings School Days program in Steamboat Springs, CO and The Las Vegas Youth Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble.To learn more and see Simon's unique residency process, visit Simon's Blog
